MI-11: McCotter Stumps for Sen. Allen

Mon Sep 18, 2006 at 01:40:40 PM PDT

I don't know if this has been diaried already (please let me know if it has as I don't see one).

The DNC recently called out Rep. Thaddeus McCotter for going to a fundraiser for Sen. Allen.

"Congressman McCotter should be condemning the Senator's offensive and derogatory comments and behavior..."

Congress Just Can't Admit We're at War

Thu Jun 15, 2006 at 08:05:28 AM PDT

It is well that war is so terrible, or we should grow too fond of it.
Robert E. Lee (1807 - 1870)

On Sept. 20, 2001, President Bush addressed the nation about the 9/11 attacks and how our nation would respond to terrorism.  He appointed his new head of the Office of Homeland Security.  He called on the Taliban to surrender all leaders of al Qaeda that hide in their country.  He also committed us to years of war by stating 'It will not end until every terrorist group of global reach has been found, stopped and defeated.'

A start to a long-term war had begun.  The country, in their anger for being attacked, signed on for it in hopes to get revenge and make themselves safer.  Unfortunately, Congress didn't seem to take it seriously.

It would seem the government is interested more in 'containment' than relief.

Bush shortens vacation by 2 days

Tue Aug 30, 2005 at 01:42:43 PM PDT

President Bush today announced that he is leaving two days early for the White House so he can better monitor the Katrina devastation.

From CNN - "We have got a lot of work to do," Bush said, referring to the damage wrought by the hurricane along Gulf Coast areas.

What??  Just two days?  I know that's just got to be punishing to his golf and bbq schedule but maybe he felt fully refreshed enough to go back to D.C.

It's a shame that we have to have such destruction on our own soil to get our President back to his job.

It started in August

Wed Aug 03, 2005 at 07:14:58 AM PDT

That's going to be one of those phrases we'll be saying for some time... "It started in August."  The first full effects of netroots democracy in action.  The ball started rolling and 'The People' took back their government.

You'll have to excuse me as I wax prophetic, hehe, but I think this is the sign of things to come.

"Just be glad you have a job"

Thu Jun 30, 2005 at 01:31:25 PM PDT

Anyone else familiar with that phrase?  It's one I've heard for 3-4 years now.  Every year at review time when the management tells me I'm 'well paid' for my position compared to the 'rest of the industry'.

Yes,  compared to the rest of the nation, I'm doing well... and of course 'I still have a job.'

More below the flap...

Clinton's Last Days

Don't know how many of you remember the last 'lame duck' session but I got wistful at this one.  Through it all,  Bill never let it get him down.

Mr. Clinton,  you are truly missed.

Today it's Flag Burning

Wed Jun 22, 2005 at 12:28:52 PM PDT

Tomorrow,  you name it.  Now I'm not one to condone flag burning.  To me it's like saying you're Pro-Death or Pro-Torture.  But what is going to be next in the patriotism banning list?

Are we going to be labelled unpatriotic for bumperstickers?  What about the sig in your email?

Was this particular piece of legislation needed so badly?  What did I hear, that there was ONE case of this last year?

I propose this. Radical as it may sound this is the foot in the door to clamping down on us and our countervoice to the neo-agenda.  This patriotism card been played on EVERYTHING so far and even senators have to bow to it.

Now I seriously doubt they can pull a China and shutdown the 'net' in this country but they could curb even more public displays of dissatisfaction with 'our leaders'.  Look what's happened to mainstream media,  they've been effective muted for some time now.

We've still got a year and a half guaranteed for more legislation to slide on through with the majority.  What else can they do?
