We are very excited about this new effort.  We feel that we can do for candidates who care about the environmental what Emily's list is doing for pro-choice women candidates.

By contributing to candidates through http://givegreen.lcv.org -- you will let those candidates know you care about the environment.

LCV Members Name McConnell to 'Dirty Dozen'

Thu Apr 10, 2008 at 12:08:50 PM PDT

We asked our more that 260,000 members to tell us who they wanted to be on LCV's 2008 Dirty Dozen.  The results of our online survey are in: Mitch McConnell -- the people's choice of the worst members of Congress on the environment.

He joins Senator Jim Inhofe and Congressman Joe Knollenberg in this infamous designation.

In the coming weeks we will be naming the rest of this year's Dirty Dozen.  Stay tuned and join the League of Conservation Voters at www.lcv.org

McCain Scores a ZERO on the Environment

Thu Feb 21, 2008 at 01:27:37 PM PDT

John McCain has several lines in his stump speech where he waxes poetic on the importance of curbing global climate change.  His rhetoric soars with a line something like: "If we work to slow greenhouse gas emissions, and stop warming, our grandchildren will thank us for our foresight... But even if we are ultimately wrong about warming, they will still thank us for protecting our environment. So, when I am President I will institute meaningful measures to protect our earth." Or some such bleck.

Well, it should come as no surprise that Mr. McCain is, in fact, no friend of the environment.  The Sierra Club and the League of Conservation Voters just released Mr. McCain's environmental scorecard.  Wait for it: ZERO, ZIP, NADA points for protecting the environment.

LCV Proud to Be Part of Donna Edwards Effort

Wed Feb 13, 2008 at 03:55:35 PM PDT

It was a great night in Largo Maryland last night as we celebrated Donna Edwards victory over Al Wynn.

LCV worked the phones, did direct mail and our grassroots campaign knocked on over 35,000 doors. My diary is the press release we sent out last night.

Which national GOTV group to contribute to? (with poll)

Tue Jan 29, 2008 at 10:53:42 AM PDT

I just received a very convincing solicitation from MoveOn asking me to donate to their Get-Out-The-Vote campaign, and have received similar solicitations from the DNC, DSCC, DCCC, DFA, LCV, etc.   My preferred donation strategy is to give all my dollars to the most effective organization (rather than spread them out), and my question is which of those groups to donate to??

California Fires Show Devastating Risks Posed by Global Warming:

Wed Oct 24, 2007 at 02:01:09 PM PDT

As we watch the fires rage through California, it got us thinking about the focus of our work -- electing leaders with the courage to do what it takes to stop global warming.

MI-09: Joe Knollenberg First House Target on Dirty Dozen List

Fri Oct 12, 2007 at 04:02:30 AM PDT

On Tuesday, the League of Conservation Voters named the first two members of the "Dirty Dozen" list of the 12 worst members of Congress on environmental issues.

The first additions to the 2008 Dirty Dozen are Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) and Congressman Joe Knollenberg (R-MI09).

We all know where Inhofe stands on the environment. If you can justify ignoring the threat of global warming by claiming it is a scam to raise the Weather Channel's ratings, then you can justify voting against any environmental protections. However, I was very glad to see the LCV recognize that Joe Knollenberg is in the same class as Inhofe.

You may not have heard of Joe Knollenberg. He is the Republican Ranking Member of an Appropriations Sub Committee, and brags about all the money he has "secured" for local interests, taking advantage of earmarks, on his website. But his record on issues important to 9th district voters is atrocious. The LCV gives him a lifetime score of just 7%.

In fact, an amendment that bans the EPA from hosting educational seminars about global warming is known as the "Knollenberg Amendment".

LCV Names First Two 2008 Dirty Dozen Members

Wed Oct 10, 2007 at 01:51:43 PM PDT

I am David Sandretti, Communications Director with the League of Conservation Voters -- the independent political voice for the environment.   You can find out more about LCV at www.lcv.org.

I joined LCV earlier this year after serving in the Senate for ten years as Communications Director for Sen. Barbara Boxer and two years as Press Secretary for Sen. Russ Feingold.

The Interest Groups seek to put their issue above Partisan Politics

Thu Aug 24, 2006 at 07:40:17 PM PDT

That statement is the reason for the LCV and other link-minded groups decide to endorse Republicans. It isn't that they fail to see the reality. It is instead they see a different reality and a future that while completely impracticable is the worldview they refuse to give up despite all the evidence to the contrary. I will do my very best to provide their argument and then you all can tear it to shreds.

Donna Edwards (MD-04) receives LCV endorsement [w/Poll]

Thu Jul 20, 2006 at 05:59:35 AM PDT

Donna Edwards, who is challenging Al Wynn in MD-04, has received the League of Conservation Voters endorsement.

The League of Conservation Voters (LCV), the independent political voice for the environment, today announced its endorsement of Donna Edwards for Congress in the 4th District of Maryland, praising her commitment and proven leadership on a variety of environmental and conservation issues.

"LCV is proud to endorse Donna Edwards. We see her as an unabashed environmental champion in the United States Congress," said LCV President Gene Karpinski. "She knows well that the key to reinvigorating America's economy is the protection of our existing resources and a sustained effort to develop and market new and renewable forms of energy. She knows it's American ingenuity and the American work ethic that will solve our energy challenges."
